Text based online game is an online game that use text as its Graphical User Interface (GUI) for user to interact. The game might have some picture to illustrate something like armor, weapon and world map. To move around, the user will press the link around and the game will load another page about it.
Its sound boring but usually this kind of game involved lots number in their mechanic. For example, Utopia a text based online game that involve some calculation to do attacking another party. Player will use thief to grab enemy intel such as their defense, resources, science and their setup or build. Using the information, player can send army to invade and take reward either land, resources, and science point. Player also instead of taking reward, can deal damage to the enemy like burn land and doing massacre. In this game, all action is depend on the teammate. Each player will be assign to a random kingdom that can consist up to 25 player per kingdom. Player also can be invited to the kingdom that they which to enter but this depend on the kingdom who to invite. So this game is play around team play through out the age.
